How much will it cost?

Viscopy operates standard licensing charges. The cost of your licence will depend on how you intend to use the work. Some charges are subject to negotiation with the artist and we will advise you when this is the case.

A guide to some of our standard licence fees is provided below. Click on a reproduction type below for more information or contact Viscopy for a precise quote for your project.

Books

Prices depend on print run, interior or cover use and size of copy on interior page. Cover reproductions need to be approved by the artist/copyright holder.
Prices range from $262.90 (including GST) per work for a 1/4 page interior use to $1,008.70 (inc. GST) per work for a cover use in a book with a print run up to 2,000. Prices increase for higher print runs.
Our licences cover Australia & New Zealand publication, for world rights an additional territory loading of + 50% applies.
Quantity use discounts apply for anyone using more than 10 Viscopy member works in the same publication, starting at a 10% discount.
For educational text books (for use by students and not sold to the general public as a reference book) there is a 25% discount from the standard book price.

Brochures

Prices depend on whether the use is for advertising or editorial purposes, the size of the brochure and the size of the reproduction.
Advertising uses (e.g. catalogues, prospectuses, leaflets)
Prices start at $487.30 (inc. GST) per work for a 1/4 page reproduction, with a print run up to 1,000 copies.
Editorial use (e.g. annual reports, gallery activities guide, exhibition brochures)
Prices start at $226.60 (inc. GST) per image for a 1/4 page reproduction, with a print run up to 1,000 copies.
Each folded surface is treated as one page.
Public museums who produce brochures featuring works on exhibition receive a 50% discount.

Exam papers / printed education kits

Prices depend on size of work and print run. Prices start at $47.30 (inc. GST) per work for a 1/4 page reproduction, with a print run up to 100 copies.
Discounts apply for the use of more than 25 Viscopy member works in the same publication.

Exhibition catalogues for public museums

Prices depend on print run, interior or cover use and size of image on interior page.
Prices start at $73.70 (inc. GST) per work for a 1/4 page image in a catalogue with a print run up to 2,000 copies. Front cover images start at $273.90 (inc. GST).
Where works are included that are not in the exhibition (eg. comparative), normal book prices apply.

Film / TV / video

Prices depend on format (TV, cinema, advertising etc), broadcast territory (Australia/New Zealand or world-wide), production budget and length of licence.
As a guide, a work shown in a television program being broadcast on Australia/New Zealand free to air TV for 5 years, with a budget under $4 million would be $348.70 (inc. GST) per work. For world-wide rights this would $1,393.70 (inc. GST) per work.
Discounts for the use of multiple Viscopy member works apply.
For monographic films/programs fees are negotiated with the artist.

Greeting cards

15% of retail selling price or 44 cents per card; whichever is higher. Minimum invoice amount is $137.50.

Merchandise

Permission and prices are by negotiation with Viscopy. Copyright holder needs to approve all requests. Printer's proofs and product samples must be provided to Viscopy for approval.
Most merchandise is licensed in the range of 20% of recommended retail price (RRP) with the exception of public museums which receive the discounted rate of 10% of RRP.

Newspapers, magazines & newsletters

Prices depend on print run, interior or cover use, size of reproduction on interior page and whether the use is for editorial or advertising purposes.
Editorial uses start at $221.10 (inc. GST) per work.
Advertising rates are higher and start at $283.80 (inc. GST) per work.
As an example a 1/4 interior page reproduction in the weekend edition of the Sydney Morning Herald or The Age newspaper would be $1,426.70 (inc. GST) per image for an advertisement or $624.80 (inc. GST) for an editorial use.
Museum and gallery society newsletters receive a 50% discount.

Postcards

44 cents per card, with a discounted rate of 22 cents per card for public museums.
Larger sizes are by special arrangement with Viscopy.
Minimum invoice amount is $137.50 (inc. GST)

Posters (not for sale)

Prices depend on poster size and print run, and start at $178.20 (inc. GST) for up to A4 size.
For a public museum advertising a work in an exhibition a discount of 50% applies.
If the advertisement is for any other cultural event (theatres, concerts, readings etc) a 40% discount applies.
The poster must contain exhibition/event details, such as title, dates and opening hours to qualify for these discounts.

Individual prints and posters for sale

All poster reproductions require prior approval from the copyright holder, a design proof needs to be sent to Viscopy.
Prices depend on print run and size of the poster, but are generally around 10% of RRP.

Billboards, public transport & taxi posters, metrolites

Prices depend on number of sites and duration of campaign.
Prices start at $1,230.90 (inc. GST) for 1-4 posters for duration of 3 months.
Supersites (billboards over 48 sheets or with prominent display - motorways, main roads etc) involve an additional 10% surcharge to account for exploitation of work.
For permanent signage, which is non advertising, the fee is billboard price less 10%.

Internet

Prices depend on how long the work will be online, and how many Viscopy member works you will be reproducing. The more works, the cheaper the price per work. Works to be reproduced online are generally licensed on an annual basis.
For cultural, non profit organisations reproducing one work online for one year the fee is $172.70 (inc. GST), for 10-19 works the fee is $94.60 (inc. GST) per work, per year.
Prices for commercial or advertising uses are higher and depend on how the image is used (home page, banner advertising etc.).
For museums, galleries and other organisations reproducing a number of works online we offer annual blanket licences based on the number of works used. Please contact us for more information.

Viscopy's minimum invoice amount is $137.50 (inc. GST).
